The Road less Backpacked
Rohtang Pass or La is situated in Manali which connects the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys With Kullu Valleys in Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the Highest mountain passes and also one of coldest places of India. The picture perfect view of mountains and valleys attract thousands of tourists.
Today I'm going to share my personal experience. Last to last year I got the chance to visit the Rohtang La with my family. It was surprising for me to know that it is situated at an altitude of approximately 13050 feet above sea level. Our adventure to Rohtang Pass began early in the morning from Manali, where the crisp mountain air filled us with excitement. It was my dream place to visit once so we had planned this trip from months and now it was finally happening. Bundled up in warm clothing we set off in our car, navigating the winding roads that led us higher into the Himalayas.
As we ascended, the lush greenery of the Kullu Valley gradually gave way to rocky terrains and snow capped peaks. the scenery was breathtaking, with every turn revealing a new panoramic view that seemed straight out from postcard. I was taking videos through my Mobile Phone that it becomes wonderful memory for all of us.
After about two hours of driving, we reached Marhi, a picturesque stopover where we enjoyed a hot cup of tea and have some snacks that was made by my mother. We are thrilled to take some family pictures and also make some reel videos that I shared on my Instagram account. The local vendors are friendly , we picked up few woolen souvenirs to keep us warm.
Continuing our journey, the road become steeper and more challenging. The higher altitude brought cooler temperature and thinner air. Finally we arrived at Rohtang Pass watching snow covered trees and feeling cold.
Steeping out of the car, we were greeted by a winter wonderland. My brother and I just couldn't contain our excitement as we raced towards the snow, start the snowball fight. I remember he throw a snow ball on my Leg and It just felt like somebody throw a big rock on me, but I handle it out somehow and start throwing some snow on my brother as well. After that my father told us to come back as there were slippery. The vast expanse of white, contrasted with the clear blue sky, was a sight to be hold. We spent some time their taking pictures and talking about the majestic beauty of the place.
My father and my brother tried sledging, which was an exhilarating experience for them. We also saw many people were enjoying snowboarding and skiing, then I asked my mother to do so but she rejected because of her joint pains. Lunchtime brought us back into the car to have food that was packed by my mother. Sitting together , surrounded by the beauty of the mountains, we felt deep sense of contentment and connection. Aloo Sabzi and Pranthas with mango pickle was cherry on top for us on that beautiful place.
As the afternoon sun began to dip, we knew it was time to start our descent back to Manali. The return journey was quieter, with everyone reflecting on the day's experiences. My parents are exhausted from all the enjoyment we had their and dozed off. While my brother and I marveled at the day's adventure.
Our visit to Rohtang Pass was more than just a family outing; it was an unforgettable experience that brought us closer together. The stunning landscapes, the thrill of the snow, the shared moments of joy made it a trip we will cherish forever.
So I hope all of you like my today's post and please share your experience as well in the comments below. Waiting....
